My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Joao’s place! We primarily visited the island to hike and this location was central to all of the spots we wanted to visit. Him and his staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and communicative. The place itself was very easy to get to, clean, and had all the amenities we were looking for. Additionally, Joao provided recommendations for some of the local restaurants and must see spots. We even got a little surprise at the end of our visit that came from his very own garden. Very pleased with this stay and highly recommend if visiting San Miguel island!

We did not expect the city environment based on the photos of the apartment - so this really was the best of both worlds. Walkable cafes and restaurants, while the apartment itself felt secluded… with a lovely lush view with wild horses, the sound of the ocean, and a starry filled sky you can view from the hot tub. Nice find and a perfect launching off point for any place you’d want to see in Sao Miguel. Nearby parking was easy enough to access and the street was nice and quiet.

Our stay at this place was simply perfect! The hosts were lovely, offering great suggestions and taking care of everything. The house was beautifully decorated, the beds were comfortable, and the garden added a touch of serenity. With its good location, it was easy to explore the island's main attractions by car. João’s place was beautiful. The greenery and flowers surrounding the home allowed us to feel peaceful and grounded. We felt very safe and secure. João was very friendly and accessible, suggesting great places to eat and things to do in the area. The location was close to the Furnas, hikes, and spectacular lookout points. Definitely rent a car! There is a parking lot right beside the home along with parking in the driveway. There is also a laundry machine available, which was a bonus! I highly recommend staying at João’s place and would certainly come back!

We can’t express how beautiful, peaceful and convenient this house was. The gardens are exquisite- lovely outdoor eating and sitting area. Our host was so helpful- our flight was delayed and Joao was very accommodating and helpful. The town itself is a great jumping off point to explore Sao Miguel and to enjoy the beaches in the area. Can’t recommend it enough!

This was a great place to stay during our visit to the island. The apartment had everything we needed and Joao was quick to respond to messages and give us suggestions of what to do and where to go. The home was clean and cleaners come in every couple of days. We would stay here again in the future.

We loved staying at this cottage on Sao Miguel and wished it had been available for 3 nights instead of just 2. This rental is in a perfect location for exploring the island, is spacious, and the garden is a beautiful retreat. Joao and his son Andre were terrific hosts. We communicated via What's App and Andre provided us with the best recommendations of what to see and do. I would recommend this place to my friends and family if they ever traveled to the island.

My husband and I (living in Berlin) met my parents from New York for a lovely weeks stay at João’s place. It was very comfortable with all amenities you could want, with a big terrace out back with jacuzzi and view of the ocean. Communication was easy. We liked being in a smaller town towards the middle of the island, so nothing could be more than a 45 minute drive. Highly recommended!!
